Can you still worship God even without the “feels”?

When Derek started leading the musicians in the worship ministry of his church, he asked God how he could contribute to the ministry. He was led to the International House of Prayer and attended an IHOP conference wanting to find out more about worship. However, he noticed that most of the conversations were about prayer.

About the same time, he was asked to lead worship for a newly set up prayer room ministry where he realised just how deeply intertwined worship and intercession were.

“The more we sing the more we realise there are aspects of God we don’t know. This leads us to study [the Word] more so that with that knowledge, we can form lyrics and lines that reflect God’s heart. Worship is prayer in song form.”

Derek started becoming more mindful of the lines he was singing in worship. For instance, he would choose an anchor verse from the bible and spend time in devotion to unpack what God was saying through that verse.

He also asked God what it meant to go deeper in worship beyond any emotive rally or external circumstance. His answer came through Covid-19.

The lockdowns took away all the sounds and lights in church services, yet God continued to move in ways he could have never imagined.

It’s about seeking God, and not just an experience. We just need the desire to enter His presence.
